Swamp Conservation Group

A Work Party was held on Saturday 13 April 2002.   Local people were all leafleted about the event and invited to attend. The Event was successfully completed and pictures can be seen if you click here.

Email the Swamp Coordinator for further details of the Group and how you can become involved in managing this important open space and wildlife habitat in our Community.   We are a voluntary organisation helping look after this area of open space called "The Swamp" which is situated between Grange Road and St. Michael's Close.  The land is owned by South Staffordshire District Council.

We need volunteers to help collect litter, generally keep an eye on the site and report problems, help with occasional organised work parties, and record events at the Swamp, including the wildlife that live there and use it.   There is also a small Tree Nursery which we are planning to revive and help will be needed for that in the spring of 2003.

Penkridge Guides were looking for a Community Project and decided to take on the The Swamp Tree Nursery this year.  They started on the 22 March 2003 and a group dug up about 30 trees and planted them around Princefield First School.  They will be returning to weed the nursery during the summer and identify and mark all the trees already there.  They are investigating other sites in the parish where further trees can be planted out.   They have also agreed to carry out some litter collecting including removing rubbish from the pond.  Pictures of the tree planting can be seen here.

The BTCV are undertaking two clean-up operations on the Swamp - 16 and 18 September 2003.  If anyone would like to help, please turn up at 10.15am on either day.  Wear old clothes and wellies and bring sandwiches.  You will be covered by Insurance under the BTCV's policies
