Penkridge Burial Ground

Back to WELCOME page

St. Michael's Churchyard is now full and a few years ago a decision was taken by Penkridge Parish Council that they would become a burial authority, acquire land and provide our community with a Burial Ground for the foreseeable future.

LATEST NEWS - November 2009
The Parish Council is to apply for Planning Permission to erect a fence and gates around the boundary of the Burial Ground which will be opened in a morning and locked in the evening.  If parishioners have any comments they would like to put forward to the Burial Ground Committee with regard to the application which includes fence type and height, could they please forward these to Lesley at the Haling Dene Centre or via email [lesley@penkridgeparish.org.uk] no later than Friday 8th January 2010.

It has taken several years to negotiate for the purchase of the land to the west of the Railway Line which can be accessed under a tunnel from the existing Churchyard.   Professional advice has been taken and the land has been slowly developed.  A small car park has been established at the entrance to the Quality Hotel and  landscaping and path work has been carried out, including preserving an existing pool.

The Burial Ground was officially opened on 30 April 2005.   There are four areas which have been prepared for use:  Section S for Burial Interments, Section G for the Strewing of Ashes, Section F for the Interment of Ashes and Section N for Memorial Plaques.   All of these areas are in Consecrated ground.

The Burial Groound will be administered by the Parish Council in accordance with a set of Rules and Regulations drawn up and available for inspection.

We would please ask all parishioners, young and old, not to use the Burial Ground as a recreational area and that all dog owners keep their pets on a lead.

For further information, contact the Haling Dene Centre on Tel: 714157 or write to:  Mrs L Griffiths, Penkridge Parish Council, Haling Dene Centre, Cannock Road, Penkridge, Stafford ST19
