What is Patient Link and Who are they?

Patient Link is an independent Patient Participation Group linked to the practice, whose purpose is to help improve communications between patients, their carers and the doctors and staff of the practice.

We are a group of local residents (current members listed below) with an interest in the quality and range of services offered at the practice, and keen to support the doctors and staff in making improvements in response to local needs.

The Group's officers for 2011 are:   Chair:  Amanda Parkyn Tel: 714520    Secretary:  Ruth Goodison Tel: 713246

What does Patient Link do?

Penkridge Patient Link is an independent voluntary group of Penkridge residents with an interest in the quality and range of services provided by the Penkridge Medical Practice.  Our purpose is to help improve communications between patients, carers, doctors and staff at the practice.  We meet regularly as an independent group and also in constructive discussions with the GP’s and the Practice Manager.

One of our aims is to give the Practice practical support – for example, we helped during the opening of the new premises by distributing publicity and assisting patients with the new automated check in system.  We have  created a comprehensive patient information booklet, as well as new information leaflets on local support groups and on patient hospital transport.

We regularly hold meetings with the GP practice on a variety of subjects, at which we represent the views of patients who have made comments or expressed concerns via the Comments Box in the Surgery.  We also discuss topics such as the costs of patient non-attendance for their appointments, the GP’s views on the government’s plans for the NHS, and the effectiveness of new local services.

With big changes coming to the way the NHS is run, we are also increasingly being asked our views on services by the local Consortium of 14 local GP practices and by the Primary Care Trust (which will be handing over responsibility for purchasing NHS services to them and other local groups of GP’s).  So it is very important for us to hear your views on any local NHS issues!

If you have any comments or concerns about your practice, or about local NHS services generally, (but excluding hospital complaints issues) you can voice these in one of several ways:  you can fill in a Comments slip available from our notice board in the Practice reception area, and post it in our box on the counter, or download the form from our web page at www.penkridge.org.uk/patientlink or from the practice’s own website: www.penkridgemedicalpractice.nhs.uk/patient-link.shtml

How you can influence change in Penkridge

If you have a suggestion or concern about practice services, the group is keen to hear from you.  Just contact one of our officers, or any of our members.  A list of current members of the group, with their phone numbers, is given below.  OR, if you are ONLINE, click on "Have Your Say" below.

Patient Link also wants to broaden its representation.  In particular, we are seeking additional members from the following groups:
People in their teens and twenties
   parents with young children
carers of those with special needs
so that their perspectives can be reflected in our work.  To find out more, contact our Chair or Secretary.

Your Experiences

Tell us about your experiences . . . . .  it will help us to improve health care

Question:       Have you, a member of your family or someone you care for had an experience of health care within the last 6 months you would like to share with us, good or bad, so that we are more aware of how patients feel about NHS services?

If your answer is yes, we want to hear from you.

How will your story help?

By gathering experiences in this way will help us to identify any trends or gaps in services where action needs to be taken, to rectify any bad practice and to promote good practice.

Our pledge to you

By completing and returning this form we will record details of your experience.  No one will know that you have contacted us and no one will contact you.

If you prefer, you can record your experiences electronically by logging onto: www.PatientOpinion.co.uk, a web-based feedback platform for patients to tell their stories of health care.

With your help we can build a clearer picture of health services from the patient perspective.
