Parish Pump News |
On Thursday 22 November 2002, Haling Dene hosted the presentation of an award to Malcolm Walker, a Parish Pump representative in Penkridge Parish. The Executive Director of the Conservation Foundation, David Shreeve, presented Malcolm with a Laptop Computer.
Parish Pumps provides a focus for environmental news and information in local communities in over 2,000 parishes in England and Wales. Although associated with the Church of England, the Parish Pump network is open to anyone who is active in the community and committed to enhancing the built and natural environment.
The Parish Pump network grew from the Foundation's highly successful "Yews for the Millennium". The project invited parishes to pant a new Yew from trees thought to be over 2,000 years old. "Yews for the Millennium" was part of the Yew Tree Campaign.
As you will no doubt have guessed, Malcolm was instrumental in planting Yews in our parish of Penkridge and was chosen to receive this award for his efforts in this parish. He is also a Tree Warden and is active in helping the Civic Society in organising our entry in the Best Kept Village Competition.
Also present at the ceremony was Malcolm's wife, Mrs Walker; Claire Foster of the Church of England Board for Social Responsibility; the Rev Lindsey Starrs, Curate of Penkridge Parish; Stanley Wright and Bevan Craddock from Penkridge Parish Council, and the Parish Administrator.
