Who are we?
P.A.C.E. was formed in September 1999 through
the initiative of Dorothy Briggs, our Project Co-ordinator and Director.
In March 1999 she applied for a Millennium Award and was successfully awarded
£8,442 to set up the project.
An Executive Committee has been formed from among the members. Charity registration was granted in March 2001. The Committee also act as Trustees of P.A.C.E. 2000.
What are our Aims?
To advance the education of
people aged 50 and over, by raising their awareness of healthy living through
topics of general interest and the benefits of exercise.
To prevent or reduce the risk of loss of independence and mobility, and improve the quality of life for older people living in South Staffordshire.
What do we offer?
Our weekly activities offer
a planned programme of -
EXERCISE - Following an initial satisfactory Health Assessment and the completion of a confidential medical questionnaire, members exercise to their own prescribed level (RPE) within a group of around 20 members.
LIFESTYLE - We offer a variety of topics, e.g. health, diet, social and recreational, around which the programme is planned each session.
RELAXATION - Some weeks our afternoon ends with a short relaxation period. Other relaxation techniques such as Aromatherapy, Reiki, Yoga are introduced through the main Lifestyle programme.
What
do we charge?
There is a £10 Annual Membership
Fee. The termly fee is in the region of £20. For a new member in
their first term this is set at just £5.
Who
are our Tutors?
EXERCISE - Alwin Collins, a qualified professional Fitness
Trainer since 1990, is contracted to lead the very enjoyable weekly exercise
element.
LIFESTYLE - The Lifestyle programme introduces a number of speakers, most being professionals in their chosen field.
WHERE
DO WE MEET?
In the Haling Dene Centre, Cannock Road, Penkridge.
Exercise is taken in Room 1 while the Lifestyle session is normally in Room 16.
WHEN
DO WE MEET?
We have three terms a year each of approximately 13 weeks when we
meet on Friday afternoons from 1.15pm to 4pm.
WHO
CAN JOIN?
Membership is open to all
the over 50's in the community. Exercise is subject to a satisfactory
health assessment.
Some members suffer from a range of health and mobility problems including heart, blood pressure, asthma, cancer, diabetes, arthritis, depression and osteoporosis.
Others are generally healthy.

Ideally, come along to one of our Friday afternoon sessions to see us in action and meet everyone. However, you will not be able to participate in the exercise on that occasion.
Following your visit Jenny will
arrange for you to complete an Application Form and a Medical questionnaire.
OTHER ACTIVITIES.....
While the main area in which P.A.C.E. 2000 operates is the Friday afternoon
programme, members are enjoying meeting as a group for other activities.
Through Rodbaston College some members are taking the E.C.D.L computer course while others are enjoying the CLAIT course, both in the IT Centre
Rodbaston have also organised Taster workshops in Willow Sculpture, Calligraphy, Garden Design, Propagation and Flower Arranging.
With Arts Grants from South Staffordshire Leisure Services we have explored Salt Dough Craft and Watercolour painting.
We also organise outings and other activities of interest to members.
