| Home | The Pirates of Penkridge |
The Pirates of Penkridge were reported to have been
active on Saturday 28 August, around Lock No. 86 of the Staffs. & Worcs. Canal.
They attacked and took over the lock and were "demanding" a toll charge before
allowing narrow boats to pass through. No blood was spilt and the
travellers went happily on their way, lighter in their purse, but happier,
knowing they had contributed to the Stafford and Cannock Hospital Radio appeal.
The pirates (sponsored by ASDA) were seen to be handing over chocolate bars to
passers by and and boat owners. It is also believed that the Penkridge
Crown Crier was around but it was noticed that he had changed his Top Hat for a
Tricorn and was taking photographs - not money! To all the narrow boat
owners who contributed "Thank you - and call in at Penkridge again - our pirates
will be pleased to see you!". (You may find your boat
below!)
