Penkridge Events Diary  

Please send details of any event you would like to publicise, by email to the Webmaster (webmaster at penkridge.org.uk) or phone him on 712733.  We would suggest you do not publicise ordinary group meetings for your members, but stick to events where the general public are invited and welcome.  You could be embarrassed if half of Penkridge turn up to a Committee Meeting!  And the webmaster will be embarrassed if he ever gets a date wrong - so please tell me.  Please always check with the organisers of the events, just in case dates have changed and we haven't been informed - but we will do our best to make sure the information is accurate and up-to-date. 
We would strongly advise all Penkridge organisations to include their major events in this Diary so that others do not organise an event that may clash.


 

EVERY WEDNESDAY - General Auction at Market - Around 600 lots of furniture, electrical goods, ceramics, glassware, books, etc. every Wednesday at 10.30am.  Viewing Tuesday 2 to 6pm and Wednesday morning from 9am.  Entries accepted Thursdays and Fridays 9.15am to 4.30pm.   Cuttlestones of Penkridge - Tel: 714905 
ALSO EVERY WEDNESDAY, SOUTH AND STUBBS RUN AN AUCTION at 11.30 for Live Poultry (under licence by DEFRA) and also for EGGS, GRAIN and PLANTS.

Second and fourth Tuesday of the month - 5.30pm - 6.30pm - Friends of Penkridge Library.  Suitable for ages 18+   Free
Third Tuesday of every month - 5.30pm - 6.30pm.  Staffordshire Shakespeare - are you interested in Shakespeare's writing and life?  Why not drop in to this new monthly group.  Suitable for ages 16+.  Free - new members welcome - no need to book.
Every Wednesday 6pm and every Saturday 8am
- Penkridge & South Staffs. Runners - meet outside Library and after your run refreshments are provided at aroound 10am in the Library.  Free - new members welcome.
Every Saturday - 11.30am - 12.30pm Chess Club - all ages and abilities welcome - Free drop-in.  No need to book.
Every Saturday - 10am - 12.30pm - Star Wars X-Wing: a war gaming club for ages 12 and upwards.  Free drop-in.  No need to book.
Monthly - first Thursday of Month
- Penkridge Reading Group - Informal discussion about books chosen by the Group. Contact Library for more details 2.30pm to 3.30pm.  FREE No booking required.

Saturday 23 April 2016 - St. George's Day -  Many TOWN CRIERS IN THE UK, (members of the Loyal Company of Town Criers) gave A 90TH BIRTHDAY PROCLAMATION TODAY IN EACH OF THEIR TOWNS - This was Penkridge Town Criers CRY today

Saturday 30 July 2016 - Waterstones Book Shop, Stafford.   10.30pm to 0030am Sunday.   Penkridge Town Crier will be attending the Launch of the new Harry Potter publication "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" at Waterstone's shop in the centre of Stafford.   This special Evening Party promises to provide barrels of magically inspired fun and encourage you to really fly into the Hogwarts spirit with the most imaginative fancy dress you can muster. 
Join us from 10.30pm as we count down to the midnight release of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.  Try your hand at some magical games, our tricky treasure hunt and fiendish quiz.  Come in fancy dress if you want to win a really cool prize.  Enjoy our magical petting zoo! 
Let the anticipation build up until our trusty town crier counts down to midnight and the release of the book *(Not to mention Harry's birthday too).

Throughout August during normal Library Opening Hours - Summer Reading Challenge "The Big Friendly Read".  Sign up at your local library, read six library books of your choice, collecting stickers and other rewards along the way - all FREE.  Aimed at children aged 4-11 years old.  Free.  Just drop in.
Monday 1 August 2016 - Penkridge Library 1pm to 2pm - Zoolab presents "Marvellous Beasts" - to celebrate the Summer Reading Challenge, Zoolab will be visiting with a collection of marvellous animals.  Adults must remain with children under 7 throughout the session.   £3 per child (£2.50 for Library members). Thursday 4 August 2016 - Reading Group - 2.30pm - 3.30pm.  Penkridge Library - read and talk about books.  Suitable for ages 16+.  Free - New members welcome.  No need to book.
Friday 12 August 2016 - Penkridge Library 10am to 12noon - Minecraft Hunger Games - 2 hours of competitive Minecraft fun!  Xbox 360 Edition with space for 8 players at once!  Swiss based tournament so everyone gets lots of goess!  Recommended ages 7+  £5 per child.  Booking is essential via the Staffordshire County Council Contact Centre on 0300 111 8000

The Penkridge Café is a long established monthly event in southern Staffordshire providing support, light relief and information for Carers and the Cared for.   All carers and their cared for are invited to this excellent forum on the
last Monday of every month at the Haling Dene Centre, Penkridge, ST19 5DT from 10.30am – 1pm.
Come along for an informal chat and a coffee and meet other carers and cared for.   Remember, you are not alone.

Tuesday 23 August to Monday 24 October 2016 - Penkridge Library during normal library opening hours - J R R Tolkien in Staffordshire 1915-1918 touring exhibition - come and explore the writings, poetry and artwork that Tolkien produced during his time in Staffordshire during the First World War.  Exhibition organised by The Haywood Society, supported by Staffordshire Libraries & Museum of Cannock Chase and funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund

Tuesday 11 October 2016 - Penkridge Local History Group (Great Marsh Publications) - Haling Dene Centre 10.30am. More pictures of Penkridge from the past.   Tea/coffee and biscuits.  Regularly between 40 and 50 people turn up to our meetings, all keenly interested and knowledgeable about the history of Penkridge and its residents over the years.

Sunday 27 November 2016 - Penkridge Annual Christmas Victorian Market and Fayre - this year earlier in the day from 2pm to 8pm.  Organised by Penkridge Business Association on the Penkridge Market Site.  Contact Secretary of PBA for further information and to find out how to book a stall.   Local Charities and local Businesses are welcome.   A marvellous event is being organised and we are looking for volunteers to help us throughout the afternoon.   It is the PBA's major fund raising event of the year and the income from this event is used to help and support Voluntary projects in our community.  If you can spare some time and would like to offer your services for just an hour say, particularly to help tidy up in the evening, then please contact Matt Williams Tel: 01785 714221 - Mobile 07757 585488 or email:  admin@penkridgemarket.co.uk
Remember - EVERYBODY WHO HAS A STALL OR WHO ATTENDS THIS EVENT, MUST WEAR VICTORIAN COSTUME.  If the Town Crier sees anyone NOT in Victorian costume, he will CRY out your name to the public. "Lets keep him quiet!"
