home Drug Raids throughout South Staffordshire, including one in the Penkridge area

On June 8 2007, officers from Watling Street Proactive Unit worked closely with HM Revenue & Customs to carry out a search on a property near Penkridge.  During the raid officers seized 11,000 litres of illicit alcohol and 157 cannabis plants, which could have a street value of up to £150,000. A number of people are currently helping officers with ongoing enquiries.

Chief Supt Nick Howe, commander of Chase division, commented: “Officers from Staffordshire are continuing to target drug activity and bring offenders to justice.

“This type of crime affects the quality of life for everyone in our communities and local residents should take comfort from the knowledge that by working with police, we can remove drugs from our streets.

The support of local residents is invaluable and we would encourage anyone seeing anything suspicious to contact their local Neighbourhood Beat Officer on 08453 302010 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111. In an emergency dial 999.

“Staffordshire is safe and we want people to feel safe.”

Detective Inspector Jane Hewett, of Chase division, added: “Drugs raids to these four properties all came about following a partnership between officers and the community. As part of a continuous strategy to work with residents, officers responded to all information of suspicious activity received from the public.

“All four properties visited were organised nurseries. We would urge anyone with information of suspicious activity to take the necessary precautions and not enter the property but to contact their neighbourhood officer. This officer will then contact trained specialists to make the property safe before anyone enters.”
