Civic Award Winner
Pauline Elsmore received the award for her long term work and distinguished
service with the British Red Cross and the British Legion.
Junior Civic Award Winner
Phillippa Hughes is 18. She received the award for her service to St. John
Ambulance and Bell Ringing. She learned to ring at 9 years of age and
after being confirmed in 2002 also became an Altar Server at the Church.
In 2002 she joined St. John Ambulance as a cadet and worked her way through to
become an adult member. During her time in the cadets she achieved over
600 hours on Public First Aid Duty. She also gained the highest award
possible for a cadet in achieving her Grand Prior Award. This involved
taking 3 years to gain certificates in 12 different subjects including
Dissability Awareness, Knowledge of the Order of St. John, Casualty Simulation,
Fire Safety, Orienteering, Craft, Music and many others. Phillippa became
a Cadet Trainer and demonstrator and also represented her Division in the County
Cadet of the Year Competitions.
Finally she has a severely Autistic brother who she greatly enjoys helping to
look after and is incredibly good with him, being patient and understanding as
he no speech. Currently she is studying at Stafford College to become a
Nursery Nurse by doing a Diploma in Child Education.
